05/17/2011:  4 Social Media Marketing Tips for Franchises

Let’s face it, franchises are different.  They’re a hybrid of corporate brand power and the freedom of entrepreneurship in individual locations.

Using social media marketing for a franchise has to toe this line very carefully, while still standing out among it’s corporate counterparts.

So, if you’re a franchise location owner and don’t know where to start with using social media, here are some quick tips!

1. Be Consistent
Set a schedule for your updates and posts.  Too busy to update every day?  Start with a just a couple of times a week, and build from there.  Or, spend just a few minutes each week writing a post for each day, and assign a trusted employee to update the account with the content.

2. Be Local
Individualize your location to strengthen its place in your community.  Use your social media platforms to promote your daily specials or sales, mention your neighboring businesses, and give shout-outs to frequent (or even non-frequent) customers.

3. Be Your Brand
Though you want to stand out as your own “individually owned and operated” location, use your brand power!  Talk about the national promotions your corporate office is heading up, use the most updated logos and photos.  Strike a nice balance between a being a well-known brand and a local community member.

4. Use the Buddy System
Talk to your corporate resources about how they recommend using social media, and don’t forget to brainstorm with your fellow franchisees about how they have used social media in the past or want to use it in the future!

    Hey Makenzie,

I think you make great points.. to be local and get out to the immediate stomping grounds, and to be your brand and talk about the big things going on organization wide.

    Useful post!
