I put our first post about conferences a couple of weeks ago, right before a couple of us from the Bluewater team were able to attend a conference for one of our fave clients...
Welcome to Part 2, where I tell you how it rocked. We were amazed, inspired, and had a blast with the whole crew….and we’re [only] vendors, so I can’t imagine what a great experience it was for the franchisees.
I can only guess it’s probably an odd, yet fantastic combination of being exhausted and pumped up all at the same time. Hey, wait a minute–I know exactly how that feels. : )
So, what do you do when you get back from an event like that? When your brain is near explosion with all the motivation and great ideas you have, it can get overwhelming.
How do you take what you’ve learned and put it into action? Here are some tips!
•Participate and Learn.
Load up on material you can take back with you and apply to your business, and try to keep it in the easiest, most usable format for yourself. Will you be more likely to hang on to and review notes on a legal pad or your laptop? Decide and start preserving your knowledge.
•Rest Up!
Conferences can be exhausting, so take a day to rest up and catch up! Just make sure you keep all of those golden nuggets of knowledge you brought back in a prominent, easy-to-find place, and make space on your calendar (immediately after your “day of rest”) to decide how you’ll use them.
•Make a ‘Best of’ List.
Go back over your conference itinerary, seminar notes, and vendor information. Mark or highlight ideas that could especially be of help to your business, then choose a handful of 3-5 those ideas or resources to start persuing. Choose some that are quick and easy to implement, and others that, though they may take more time and effort, could prove to be a HUGE success for your business.
•List Goals & Action Items.
What goals do you have for those post-conference ideas? What’s the best possible outcome? How can you make them a reality? Make a master task list for the end results you want, and how you’ll achieve them. Then….
•Go get it!
Make it happen. Share the goals with and recruit help from your staff, fellow business owners, or, if you’re a franchisee, your corporate resources. This will only increase your chances of succeeding and make it even more worth it when you do!
What is or has been your post-conference plan of attack?
